My story

For a very brief moment in time, I had the opportunity to "meet" James Edgar Warrington via the web site & email.
We had a lot of things in common.
I don't know how to explain it but we became "instant" friends especially after we found out that we both had ridden Triumph motorcycles and Harleys, the friendship just "snow balled". We both have been to Sturgis, SD for the Black Hills Motorcycle Rally and Races and we were to meet there in August of 2000, him on his new Harley that he and Kathy, his wife, had ordered.
We both liked trains, Jim had worked for the railroad and I have loved trains since I was a kid and they are a big hobby of mine.
We both worked for RCA, we both have been Amateur (Ham) Radio Operators, our birthdays were 1 day apart!! We both have flown Radio Control airplanes. Jim and I both have a collection of metal models of John Deere tractors. Jim was the Chaplain for the Plains, Montana chapter of The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and I have pastored a small church.
I have found out that Jim was a perfectionist to the point of driving his wife, as she says, "crazy". I guess I have that "quality", also.
Jim was suddenly diagnosed as having cancer. I began calling him about once a week and e-mailing whenever he was home from the hospital. I decided I had better go meet this guy that I had so much in common with. So very early on the morning of December 27th I set out on a trip to Helena, Montana.
Regretfully, Jim passed away as I was enroute to see him.
Although I never got the chance to meet him personally, I knew him well.
He was a crew member of the USS Columbus and that made him "family".

Jim wanted me to speak at his service, which I did.
I am glad I had the privilege of meeting his wife Kathy; Kathy's Mom, Sandra; Kathy's brother, John Henry; Jim's Mom, Velma; and Jim's brother, Ken, who is also a USS Columbus CG-12 crew member.
AND lots of Jim's friends and neighbors.
Am I glad I made the trip??

Absolutely!

I had the chance to see the beautiful area he lived in, his very nice log style home, his great family and friends.
