As I am actually writing the last of the HTML code to "glue" these hundreds and hundreds of scans to make this Scrapbook available on the web site, I am compelled to say a few things.
As this 7 month project comes to an end, I wonder what it would have been like to have served under or maybe even personally meet Captain Boyd. After spending hours and hours with these things, I have come to think he must have been a very highly thought of Officer of the US Navy. Especially to have received the Command of what was considered the Navy's best fighting vessel. I think he must have been a good Skipper and the letter to Richard Boyd indicates he was a great Dad.
I am grateful that Richard Boyd saved these things. There are not many things left from the USS Columbus AND I have had the privilege of seeing and actually "dissecting" them. It has been like a walk back on to the USS Columbus itself or as close as one can have, now that she is gone. I hope that everyone that " has walked" the huge amount of information and photographs here of the USS Columbus CG-12 feels the sway of that tall ship. There is so much history here. I hope you enjoyed my "Tour of Duty" in "Captain Boyd's Scrapbook", the "Box of Photos" and the "Decommissioning Envelope" of the USS Columbus CG-12..
If I may also say that it is my observation that Captain Boyd seems to have had a deep commitment to God, Country, the US Navy, his ship, the crew and to his family.
Again, on behalf of the many crew members that will enjoy this, Thank You, Richard Boyd
